Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month: Support, Healing, and Resources for Grieving Parents
Every October, we are invited to pause, reflect, and remember. Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month is a time to honor the babies who left us too soon and offer support for grieving parents through remembrance, mental health counseling, and community connections. We hold sacred space for the families whose lives were forever changed by their absence.
Across the world, countless parents experience miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, or infant loss each year. Yet, too often, these losses are met with silence. Grief becomes a private burden, tucked away behind closed doors but love this deep deserves to be seen, named, and honored.
At the Center for Perinatal Mental Health and Family Wellness, we believe in breaking that silence. We believe every story matters, and every parent deserves support through the complex layers of grief, healing, and meaning-making that follow loss.
Understanding the Grief of Pregnancy and Infant Loss
Pregnancy and infant loss are unlike any other. It’s the loss of dreams the future you imagined, the milestones you’ll never reach, the memories that will never be made. For many, it’s a grief that lives in the body as much as in the heart.
You may find yourself feeling isolated, misunderstood, or unsure of how to talk about your experience. You might feel waves of sadness, anger, guilt, or even numbness. All of these feelings are valid. Grief has no timeline, and healing is not a straight path.
You Are Not Alone
We want you to know: you are not alone. There is a community of parents, families, and professionals who see you, who understand the depth of your love, and who walk beside you in remembrance.
Throughout this month, we encourage you to connect with support whether through therapy, support groups, remembrance events, or simply speaking your baby’s name aloud. Sharing your story, when you’re ready, can be an act of healing and a gift to others walking a similar road.
Join the Wave of Light
On October 15th at 7:00 PM, families across the world will light candles for one hour in remembrance of the babies gone too soon. Together, we create a continuous Wave of Light that travels across time zones and hearts — a powerful reminder that no parent grieves alone.
We invite you to join us by lighting a candle in your home, posting a photo in honor of your baby, or simply taking a quiet moment to breathe and remember.
Perinatal Mental Health Support for Grieving Parents
At the Center for Perinatal Mental Health and Family Wellness, we provide compassionate, trauma-informed support for families navigating pregnancy and infant loss.
Our services include:
Individual therapy for parents and families
Mother-baby dyadic therapy to strengthen attachment after loss or trauma
Perinatal support groups to connect with others in shared healing
Community education to foster awareness and reduce stigma
We believe healing is possible when we are held — by community, by compassion, and by truth.
A Loving Reminder
If you are grieving, we honor your courage. Grief is not a measure of weakness; it is a reflection of love. Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, your baby’s life matters.
This October, may we speak their names, light our candles, and remind one another: you are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone.
